Vault Backup & Recovery

Protect your encrypted files with regular backups and know how to recover if needed.

Creating a Vault Backup

  1. Open Activate Security Document Vault
  2. Go to Settings → Backup
  3. Click "Create Backup"
  4. Choose backup location (external drive recommended)
  5. Wait for backup to complete

Backup Best Practices

  • Weekly Backups: For frequently updated vaults
  • External Storage: USB drive or external hard drive
  • Multiple Locations: Keep 2+ backup copies
  • Test Restores: Verify backups work periodically

Restoring from Backup

  1. Install Activate Security if needed
  2. Open Document Vault
  3. Click "Restore from Backup"
  4. Select backup file
  5. Enter vault password
  6. Wait for restoration to complete
Important: You need your vault password to restore backups. Store password separately from backup files.

Cloud Backup Options

You can backup encrypted vault files to cloud storage:

  • Files remain encrypted in cloud
  • Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive supported
  • Password still required to access
  • Automatic sync possible
