Having trouble connecting to VPN? This guide will help you resolve the most common issues.
VPN Won't Connect
Solution 1: Check Internet Connection
- Ensure you have an active internet connection
- Try accessing a website without VPN
- Restart your router/modem if needed
Solution 2: Try Different Server
- Open VPN settings in Activate Security
- Select a different server location
- Try connecting again
Solution 3: Restart Application
- Close Activate Security completely
- Restart the application
- Try connecting to VPN
Solution 4: Check Firewall Settings
- Ensure Activate Security is allowed through your firewall
- Temporarily disable firewall to test
- Add exception for Activate Security if needed
VPN Keeps Disconnecting
Enable Auto-Reconnect
- Go to VPN Settings
- Enable "Auto-Reconnect"
- VPN will automatically reconnect if dropped
Choose Nearest Server
Distant servers may have unstable connections. Select a server closer to your physical location.
Change Protocol (Advanced)
- Go to Settings → VPN → Advanced
- Try different protocol (TCP vs UDP)
- TCP is more stable but slower
Slow VPN Speed
Select Faster Server
- Use "Fastest Server" option
- Choose server with low load indicator
- Select geographically closer server
Disconnect Unused Devices
If multiple devices use VPN on same account, disconnect unused ones to improve speed.
Close Bandwidth-Heavy Apps
Streaming, downloads, and updates slow VPN. Pause these activities for better performance.
Note: VPN adds small overhead (encryption). 10-20% speed reduction is normal.
Can't Access Websites with VPN
Clear Browser Cache
- Clear browser cache and cookies
- Restart browser
- Try accessing site again
Try Different Server Location
Some sites block certain VPN server IPs. Switch to different country server.
Disable IPv6
- Go to Settings → VPN → Advanced
- Disable IPv6
- Reconnect VPN
Error Messages
"Connection Timed Out"
- Firewall is blocking VPN connection
- Try different server
- Check antivirus isn't blocking VPN
"Authentication Failed"
- Log out and log back in to Activate Security
- Check subscription is active
- Verify account credentials
"No Internet Connection"
- Disable kill switch temporarily
- Check your actual internet connection
- Restart network adapter
